What is a Family Medicine Provider?

Medical Providers trained in Family Medicine have a broad understanding of health and disease throughout the human lifespan.  These providers are trained to care for newborns, children, adults, and seniors.  Our family doctors – Dr. Connery, Shari Kiehnbaum, Tracie Walterschied and Jade Golden – offer continuing and comprehensive health care for the individual and family across all ages, genders, diseases, and parts of the body.

We family medicine providers are passionate about your wellness and are skilled at looking at the whole person in the context of managing health challenges.  We want to meet you where you are so that together we can formulate a wellness plan to help you feel your absolute best.  Every person’s journey to wellness is different and our expertise in seeing you as a whole person is critical.  We base our evaluations and recommendations on evidence-based data to help you wade through the endless information out there regarding health.  We are open-minded and recognize that each person comes to us with a different cultural background.  We honor differences and support integrative practices based on individual preferences.

More specifically, Aspen Medical Care is a doctors office that is here to help you through a variety of health challenges and to achieve your wellness goals.  Some challenges may include acute illnesses such as viral and other respiratory illnesses and post-viral complications, chronic illnesses such as elevated blood pressure and elevated cholesterol, orthopedic injuries, acute injuries such as lacerations, chronic pain management and addiction concerns. We are coordinators of your care, helping to determine if you need further evaluation by a specialist. We are happy to refer you to the best specialist for your needs.

We urge you to keep current with your preventive care and remind all patients to be seen for their annual wellness exams. During these exams, we will review evidence-based preventive recommendations and will conduct a physical exam, order blood work as appropriate, review screening procedures like colonoscopy and mammography, and recommend age-appropriate immunizations.  As trained family doctors we are experts in helping you understand what lifestyle factors may be hindering or maximizing your health.  We can discuss your exercise and nutritional habits and help you determine where you may be able to improve.  We are in the unique position at Aspen Medical Care to work closely with Pediatric and Internal Medicine providers which allows us direct access to the most up-to-date clinical management information for all of our patients at every age and stage.
